Jackline Kemigisa (JK): Let’s begin with brief self-introductions; as you introduce yourselves, please tell us what it is that you do to pay your bills, what brings you joy and where you belong in the various variations of feminisms. I am a Ugandan feminist who identifies as abolitionist leaning.
Brenda Wambui (BW): Hi everyone. I’m a Kenyan feminist who came to feminism through a radical lens, though I have moved beyond prioritising the sub-divisions, mostly because I’m caught up in the weeds of praxis and work. It’s about everyone falling in line, picking up their jembes (hoes) and doing the hard work. I am a policy, research and advocacy professional working across Africa and beyond. I am building Ushiriki Labs, a policy lab that champions frontier issues, aimed at ensuring that the Global South shapes the 21st Century agenda, moving beyond providing labour and raw materials.
